There are two 4th grade classes planning their upcoming China trip. One class wants to visit the Great Wall, while the other class wants to skip it. The first class is on a mission to convince the other class that the Great Wall is worth visiting. In order to accomplish the mission, students in the first class will need to gather strong evidences to support the plan of going to the Great Wall.
Students will learn the basic facts about the Great Wall of China, explore the exciting things to do and see while visiting the Great Wall of China, and collect ample data about why people should visit the Great Wall of China through reading selected texts and an interview activity.
At the end of this unit, students will produce two products and present them to the other class. The first product is an individual persuasive writing which includes an advocated statement with at least 3 reasons and conclusion. Students will produce a large poster of the Great Wall on which these individual writings will be presented in the form of bricks of the Great Wall. This poster will be presented to other class and to be displayed on the hallway wall.
The second part will be a class oral presentation in which students are divided in small groups and each group is responsible to present one aspect of the overall persuasive project to another class. The goal is to convince the other class to go visiting the Great Wall. |
